HARTFORD- State Rep. Terrie Wood of Darien today voted to permit additional veterans to receive their diploma.

House bill 6687, An Act Concerning Various Revisions to the Education Statutes, would permit local or regional board of educations to award diplomas to veterans of the Korean Conflict or the Vietnam Era, who left high school prior to graduation in order to serve in the armed forces of the United States and did not receive a diploma as a consequence of such service.

Currently, World War II veterans were the only returning veterans who could be awarded a diploma.

Rep. Terrie Wood said, “Both Korean and Vietnam veterans who left high school to fight for our country and preserve our freedom should be given their diplomas, it’s the least we can do for their sacrifice.”

Rep. Terrie Wood represents the 141st General Assembly District covering Darien and Rowayton. She serves on the following legislative committees: Education; Environment and Appropriations.
